INTERVIEWER:
Ira Riklis: loves a scary movie, so it will be interesting to learn what movies he would
recommend for Halloween fans.
Ira Riklis:
The really scary Halloween movies aren’t intended for kids, so I’m going to assume
you aren’t asking me about family entertainment. I’ve always thought that the scariest
Halloween movies were those with a lot of gore. If I don’t have to cover my eyes during
a scary movie, it’s not of the Halloween fan caliber.
INTERVIEWER:
What are your favorite gory Halloween movies, then? The ones that pass your blood and
guts test?
Ira Riklis:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre definitely tops my all time favorite list. Not only for the
gore content, but Leatherface is wearing a mask that is made of skins. I think that tops
the hockey mask of Jason in the Friday the 13th, although Jason has to be included in my
top 5 scariest Halloween movies.
INTERVIEWER:
Zombies have been popular for several years now. How do the living dead films rate on
your scary Halloween movie meter?
Ira Riklis:
Day of the Dead is one of the best zombie movies I’ve ever seen. Not only is it scary
enough for Halloween fans, it also passes the gore test.
INTERVIEWER:
What about thriller movies? Does the lack of rivers of blood automatically remove them
from your favorite scary Halloween movie list?
Ira Riklis:
If a movie is done well, the fact that it could be true makes it doubly scary. Silence of the
Lambs is a psychological thriller that has to go on anyone’s top 5 scary movie list. And
we can’t forget the classic, The Exorcist.
INTERVIEWER:
Thanks to Ira Riklis, we have compiled a list of the top 5 scary movies to watch before
Halloween.

While doing some clearing of the DVR this weekend, I happened upon my three-year-old recording of the last game at the previous Yankee Stadium. Having been at that game, I just can’t bring myself to delete it until I watch it a few more times. (Side question: when will DVR manufacturers and/or the cable companies allow simple export of recorded shows to a hard drive, optical disk, the cloud, etc.?)

This game appeared on ESPN that day in September 2008. The thing I like about ESPN is the network knows its viewers are not interested in spare presentations of the game. On the contrary, this particular, historic game was presented with a scrolling feed along the bottom pointing out notable happenings at Yankee Stadium since its opening in 1923. Concerts, prizefights, Papal visits, etc. all crawled across the bottom of the screen in a constant data pipe of information.

One part of the crawl interested me especially, as I have a fondness for both the Yankees and movies. It listed movies where at least some scenes were filmed at “Yankee Stadium (1923),” as Wikipedia calls it.

Here’s the list:

Pride of the Yankees (1942),

The Babe Ruth Story (1948),

It Happens Every Spring (1949),

Angels in the Outfield (original version, 1951),

Bang the Drum Slowly (1973),

Major League (1989), and

For the Love of the Game (1999)

Interestingly, one notable movie about Yankees lore, 61*, was filmed in Tiger Stadium in Detroit.

Looking for an action packed, adventure filled movie to see? Cowboys and Aliens will be released on July 29th of this year, 2011. This movie is based on a spaceship which arrives in Absolution (a deserted town in Arizona) in 1873. The plan is for them to take over the earth starting with the west but the Cowboys are not going to let that happen! Directed by John Favreau, this film gives you just about every element of a thriller film you need. It stars Daniel Craig who plays Jake Lonergan, Harrison Ford who plays Col. Woodrow Dolarhyde and Olivia Wilde who plays Ella. Jake is a loner who has lost his memory and enters Absolution while Col. Dolarhyde hails from the cowboy side. The people of Absolution do not allow strangers so they rebel against Jake. Col. Dolarhyde rules that no one is to make any moves without his consent. Ella, who seems to be the love interest of Daniel sides with him to try and discover the unknown. While the aliens demand what they want, humanity must work together to salvage what they call home. Judging from the trailer, besides the setting of the scenes, the movie does not feel like these elements happened so far back in time. It is just that interesting and exciting so your main focus is on what is to come and how it will end. This movie can pretty much be described as an old western film with a new millennium twist. Most of all this movie is rated PG-13 so it caters to most ages and can be seen by the whole family. For any old western fans and individuals looking to try seeing something new, you should go see Cowboys and Aliens on July 29th!

Equal Parts Music, Adventure, Scenery, and Depp – Pirates Shines A New

The biggest blockbuster of the year was not a comic book movie, but rather a sequel by Disney, starring the incomparable Johnny Depp. By this point the media has completely tired would be reviewers with reviews, commentary, interviews, and so much more, but they seemed to have missed out on a few things, and it’s not the main actors, but rather the grand set design, beautiful landscapes, and yes Penelope Cruz and her beautiful eyes.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean series has been met with a variety of praise, and those that haven’t loved it, missed the point. The fun involved in searching for the mythical Fountain of Youth is the main purpose of this film, and throughout there are ups and downs with Jack Sparrow and his crew, as they deal with other creatures of mythical proportions. The story is what it is, light and airy, speeding through different plot points to tie together nicely in the end, and open up room for another sequel to be filmed, and that’s what most see, which is fine.

What people sometimes fail to notice is the backgrounds, the juxtaposition of scenery with action. The lighting shifts, the nuanced costumes, the foreshadowing, and the musical cues that only prove to be a mighty example of how storytelling can be done right. Mix together action, comedy, music, adventure, and a beautiful location, and you have a winning combination. Sure, this film is not going to win prizes for most dramatic acting, but with so many pieces making their way to create such an unforgettable film, who needs Shakespeare? We get Sparrow on full throttle! This is an instant Ira Riklis Special. The movie is worth checking out, with some great highs and lows.

Well, yes and no. Your grandmother could project slides from her last Key West vacation on a wall for two hours and that would technically be a movie. We’re talking about a complex set of criteria (too complex to be adequately defined here), and a vast but gradual change in the very fabric of our society.

Piracy north of the border has exploded in the two years since Congress made it a crime to use video recording devices to copy movies in U. But with piracy laws more relaxed in Canada, bootleggers can operate there almost risk free.

Summer movies are usually the best for the fact that they usually turn out to be blockbusters. The industry usually have an idea that they can make a lot more when movies come out around this season because everyone is out of school. Summer of 2010 really had some interesting movies to come out such as “Inception”, “Salt”, and “Vampires Suck” just to name a few.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars in “Inception” in which it’s based on a psychological factor in which DiCaprio’s character can go into people’s dreams and steal their ideas. Even expert hackers can’t get the information that his character can. Some people may find this movie roughly confusing, but it’s overall fantastic and amazing.

Salt is mainly another summer film starring Angelina Jolie in which her character is a CIA agent who’s basically out on the run. People confuse her into being a Russian assassin thinking she’s going to take out the U.S. President. It’s a good film if you’re into crime or mystery.

Vampires Suck, as you may can tell from the title, is basically a comedy film that spoofs such movies like the Twilight trilogies. It also relates to other teen romantic movies too. The character, Becca has to choose between two guys while also avoiding obstacles along the way.

I’ve just been reading a sketch of the upcoming major motion picture, Safehouse, a film being supported by Ira Riklis. I’m already on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how the story unfolds. Given Ira Riklis’ other films, like The Lemon Tree, I’ve no doubt it will be just as full of spell binding tension. The film is due for major release in 2010.

The story will focus on two women, one assigned to protect the other, living in a safe house in London until one of the two women recovers from radical plastic surgery financed by the Israeli Mossad. The other woman, the body guard, is trying to see this last assignment through before withdrawing into a normal life with her family after three years in Africa. The woman whose undergone the surgery is Lebanese and used to work for the affluent and the connected before suffering horrible burns.

Now, while recuperating, various agencies are at war around the safe house: the Mossad trying to protect their asset, the Arab secret service trying to find and eliminate the women, and the British MI5 trying to figure out what is going on under their noses. Pretty good, huh.
